1st Transfer, Done!

Hello Everybody!
This week has been pretty great! Somehow it's already the end of my first transfer, and I have no clue how. The older missionaries have told me that time flies, but this is a whole different level, haha! I've learned a lot in my first 6 weeks here, whether that be improving my teaching, adapting my teaching for different investigators, or becoming more of a friend, instead of just a serious missionary. As for this week, it's been good! It rained almost all week, so walking around on dirt roads has been...fun, but on the bright side, I'm going to be able to jump super far distances with all the practice these mud puddles are giving me, haha! The majority of our investigators are progressing well. One of our investigators, Dalcy, already wants to serve a mission. She has only been to church once, hasn't received all the lessons, and hasn't been baptized yet. This has really strengthened my testimony that the Lord really does place people who are ready to receive his Gospel, and share it with others right in front of us. I'm enjoying studying the scriptures more and more, and finding all kinds of connections throughout all 4 of the Standard Works that I didn't see before. Anyways, I hope you're all doing well in whatever endeavors are going on in your lives. I'd love to hear from you, send me an email sometime!

Week 5 in Bolivia

My week has been pretty good. On Tuesday, we had a ton of appointments, but we got them all completed somehow, haha. On Wednesday, we had a multizone conference, at it went on for 5 hours. We received a lot of training on how to make commitments, and how to make sure our investigators keep these commitments. We also had Papa John’s Pizza at the conference. It doesn’t taste exactly the same as America, but it was still pretty good.

Speaking of America, everyone here thinks there are only 5 continents. I said there were 7 and they thought I was insane. They don’t count Antarctica as a continent, and they think The Americas is one huge continent made up of North, Central, and South America. I said that that was wrong, because obviously North and South America are different continents. They said I only think this because all Gringos think they’re the best and have no equal, they also think it’s weird that I don’t have two last names. They don’t understand the concept of a middle name, haha. They get so confused when I say that my last name is just May, not Perry May, and no one can pronounce May correctly here, haha.

I’ve truly witnessed the power of the Gospel bringing families together this week. We’ve been working with this 16-year-old, Julio Chacon, since I got here. At first, we were just teaching him, then his little brother started joining in on the lessons, then a few weeks later, his little sister and mother joined in, and now his older sister is receiving the lessons, too. We are now teaching the whole family, except for their father. His older sister, Dalcy, came to church with us this week, and also brought two of her friends, so that’s cool! Funny story there, haha...so we went to pick up Dalcy and her friends, and decided to take a taxi, instead of a bus, because church was going to start soon. We told the driver the name of the street Don Busco, and said it was right by a high school. Well, apparently there are two Don Buscos, a north and south, and our driver decided to go to the north side...which isn’t even in our mission. We were like, sir, this isn’t our area, or our mission, when we told him we wanted Don Busco South, he acted like we didn’t tell him that, when we did. So, he made us pay him again to take us back the other way to the church, even though it was all his fault. My Companion was NOT happy, and neither was I. We got to church late, and missed the sacrament, which stinks, because obviously I want my investigators to see and feel how important that ordinance is.

This week, I had the very rare opportunity of listening to the Prophet and his wife, the South American Northwest Area president and his wife, and also Elder Gary E. Stevenson and his wife...two days in a row. On Saturday, I listened to them speak to all the missionaries in this area. It was a broadcast from Lima, Peru. They talked about the importance of the Book of Mormon and Preach My Gospel. President Nelson talked about how you can explain all the doctrines of Christ using 3rd Nephi, so that was cool. I’m going to study those chapters again to improve my teaching. On Sunday, they talked to La Paz, Bolivia, and it was transmitted to all the chapels in Bolivia. Sister Nelson talked about how President Nelson receives many revelations for the church, and she gave her personal witness that her husband was a prophet of the Lord, which was really cool. President Nelson talked about the importance of families, and how we must have a Gospel and Christ centered home to survive in this day and age. He gave the majority of his talk in Spanish, which was actually pretty cool. Overall, it’s been a good week!

My First Baptism!

Hey Everybody!
This week has been pretty good! I committed one of our investigators to Baptism this week, and had my first baptism, so that was awesome! I baptized Belen, a 12 year old girl. It was such a great experience. Knowing that you helped someone participate in an ordinance that will lead to their eventual salvation is a very special feeling. Now she has the opportunity to be in the Church for almost all her life! Besides that, we have lots of progressing investigators. Everyone here is super humble, so they're always willing to at least listen to us, and most of the time want to hear more about our message. I'm loving it here, helping people through the Gospel is such a rewarding experience. I hope you're all doing well!

Two Months Down!

Hello everyone!

This week has been pretty crazy! I moved houses this past Monday, but it actually is a very nice house, so I'm glad for that. Me and my companion have more space and privacy now. I have my first baptism this Saturday, and I'm super excited for that! It's for a 13 year old girl named Belen, and she said she wants me to baptize her, so that's gonna be a great privilege. Conference was great this past weekend! I learned so much about ministering and bringing Christ's sheep unto him, which will really help me in missionary work! Next week, I will give a more in depth summary of conference when I have some time to go over all my notes. I hope you're all doing well! Here is a picture of some of the elders today at our district activity. We had pizza and watched a movie.

Week 2

Hey everyone!

This week has been pretty good, I have been learning lots of Spanish, and have become a lot better at teaching the lessons. This week has basically been the same as last week. We've had lots of investigators, and have been teaching lots of lessons. Everyone here is very receptive to the Gospel. I love it here, and I love serving the Lord! I'm moving houses today, so you'll get and update on that next week. I can't wait for conference!
